Etonian National Museum and Jakob Hurt

In cooperation with the Estonian National Museum and Eesti Pank, a unique gift has been created that combines memories of Jakob Hurt.

The gift money completed at the opening of the museum helps to capture important topics for the Estonian people: the kroon, the first currency of our re-independence, the memory of Jakob Hurt, who founded the preservation of Estonian cultural heritage. After the death of Jakob Hurt, the next generation of national movement decided to found the Estonian National Museum (ENM) in order to carry on the legacy of this great man.This gift of money provides a great opportunity to draw attention to these historical ties.

In 1991, Eesti Pank issued a 10-kroon banknote featuring Jakob Hurt. This banknote was used until Estonia adopted the euro in 2011.

The gift money was designed by Merike Tamm. The souvenir uses photos taken by Arp Karm.
