In Tallinn, names such as Joseph Kopf, Roman Tavast, Richard Lange, Jakob Rubin and Theodor Grühn are more familiar, while in Tartu, Johannes Alt, Otto Hermann and Voldemar Tiido are perhaps better known. In reality, there were many more goldsmiths in both the mentioned cities and in smaller towns – altogether, more than 400 operated during the interwar years. The more successful goldsmiths ran their own workshops and businesses, where others worked as employees, or where orders from larger workshops were fulfilled at home.<br /> <br /> What objects were made of silver between the two world wars? On what occasions were they purchased, given as gifts or awarded?
