<div class="rtejustify"><em>The lecture is in English and free of charge.</em><br /> <strong>Pakistan – The Land of Pure and Vibrant Culture</strong><br /> Atifa Durrani, Guest PhD Student of the University of Tartu<br /> <br /> The society and culture of Pakistan comprises numerous ethnic groups such as the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punjabi_people" title="Punjabi people">Punjabis</a>, Saraikis,, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashmiri_people" title="Kashmiri people">Kashmiris</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sindhi_people" title="Sindhi people">Sindhis</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baloch_people" title="Baloch people">Baloch</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pashtun_people" title="Pashtun people">Pashtuns</a> and many other small ethnic groups. The culture of these Pakistani ethnic groups have been greatly influenced by many of its neighbors in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Asian_ethnic_groups" title="South Asian ethnic groups">South Asia</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkic_peoples" title="Turkic peoples">Turkic peoples</a> as well as the peoples of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Asia" title="Central Asia">Central Asia</a> . Other than ancient ethnic elements, the religious influence of Islam has also strongly shaped Pakistani culture since it first came to the region in 700 AD. Majority of Pakistani people belong linguistically to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Aryan_languages" title="Indo-Aryan languages">Indo-Aryan</a> group. As per the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Census_of_Pakistan" title="2017 Census of Pakistan">2017 Census</a>, the estimated population of Pakistan was over 207 million making it the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_dependencies_by_population" title="List of countries and dependencies by population">world's fifth most-populous country</a>.<br /> <br /> Pakistan has been fortunate having diversity of culture due to its multiethnic diversity. This presentation will generally go through the multi-cultural mosaic of Pakistan. The cultural aspect may include social culture, folklore, fair and festival, art and literature, architecture and so on. As mentioned above, the cultural aspects of Pakistan are numerous but in my presentation “Pakistan – The Land of Pure and Vibrant Culture” I will try to deal with some very prominent cultural aspects of Pakistan.<br /> <br /> The lecture is co-organized by the Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore, University of Tartu.</div>
