We are informing you of an important update to the Estonian National Museum’s International Residency program.Updated timeline
- Application deadline: 31 March 2026
- New: Open info session: 17 March 2026
- Results announced: 29 May 2026
- Residency period: September 2026 – February 2027
- Exhibition: 24 February – 19 September 2027
What has changed
Due to an unforeseen change in our exhibition schedule, the joint exhibition resulting from the residency has been rescheduled to open on 24 February 2027 (previously 25 November 2026). The exhibition will run in the temporary exhibition hall until 19 September 2027.
To ensure the residency remains a coherent six-month arc from the start of research to the opening of the exhibition, we have adjusted the full timeline accordingly. The residency period now runs from September 2026 to February 2027. Without this adjustment, residents would have faced a three-to-four-month gap between the end of their research and the exhibition opening, a situation we considered unacceptable.
Application deadline extension
Given these changes, we have extended the application deadline to 31 March 2026. All applications already submitted remain valid and will be considered, unless you wish to rescind, which you can do by emailing us at residency@erm.ee. You are also free to submit a revised application to further develop your proposal.
We are hosting an open info session on 17 March 2026
As we have received many questions about the residency and its structure, we want to give applicants a direct opportunity to ask their questions. We are hosting an open info session (in English, online through Zoom) on 17 March 2026, starting at 16:00 (EET, UTC+2). You can find details on the format and registration at: www.erm.ee/residency/session
What has not changed
We want to reiterate that the core program and offering remain the same: we are looking for four international residents who will work on their research proposal and a joint exhibition over a 6-month period. Each resident will receive a €10,000 stipend, accommodation and travel support, relevant working conditions and a professional team and budget for the exhibition production. The conceptual framework of investigating the photo archive remains at the heart.
