During the first decades of this century, similar livingrooms were
to be found in towns, in hamlets, as well as in the more well-to-do farms.
For the Estonians, home was a place which had to be comfortable and cosy.
Home-made "stuff" was replaced with furniture made by the cabinetmakers,
many things were obtained from the towns and at the manor auctions. The
press, societies, and courses taught and inspired people to decorate the
home. Tidiness and "homeculture"
became catchwords.
Most of the things on show come from the Parish of Paistu.
