At
the beginning of the 20-th century, when Osmussaar was populated by
Swedes, the island's residents consisted of 12 families who lived
in seven farms. There was a total of about 140 people. There was no
detectable difference in the material wealth of the various farms.
The islanders judged a farm's wealth by the number of able - bodied
people on a farm. There wasn't single theif or dog on the island.
