The deporters were Russian
officers, soldiers and uniformed NKVD men. They were accompanied
by some locals - Robert Liiver (the Communist Party activist), M.Neemoja,
and Jaan Vahari, who told Mother, who at the time was in the barn
milking, to stop, since she no longer had any right to be there.
Father was ordered to stand by the wall and a gunman guarded him.
They conducted a search. The deporters took along the radio, some
silver coins and a silver chain, and a World War I silver medal.
We
were allowed to take along 75kg, but they didn't tell us to pack
the things separately. We took clothing, nightshirts, dishes, provisions.
Mother wasn't permitted to take along her sewing machine and scissors.
