Research publishing

The ENM has historically been a research publisher with a focus on publishing in Estonian and for the Estonian audience to ensure the availability of relevant research for the domestic public, as well as researchers. Selected publications have published in English, publishing in both high-impact international journals, collections of articles by recognised international publishers and for the domestic audiences by local publishers.

The ENM publishes the Yearbook of the ENM, which was first published as early as 1925, being the first, and for years, the only periodical edition on ethnology in Estonia. Currently, the Yearbook has developed into an edition where scientific articles in the Estonian language by the researchers of the ENM but also by other Estonian and foreign ethnologists, cultural anthropologists, and folklorists are published. Articles are provided with abstracts in English and Russian. The Yearbook publishes peer-reviewed articles, also online, which increases its availability and impact.

The Journal of Ethnology and Folkloristics (JEF), is published jointly with ENM and the University of Tartu and the Estonian Literary Museum. JEF is addressed to an international scholarly audience, publishes 2 volumes per year of peer-reviewed articles and is available online (www.jef.ee). JEF is indexed by the Anthropological Index Online, Central and Eastern European Online Library (C.E.E.O.L.), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), ERIH PLUS, MLA Directory of Periodicals (EBSCO), MLA International Bibliography (EBSCO) and Open Folklore Project. From March 31, 2016 the Journal of Ethnology and Folkloristics is published in partnership with De Gruyter Open, the world‘s second largest publisher of Open Access academic content.

The museum also publishes books, article collections and conference abstracts.
