Temporary exhibitions at the Exhibition House of Estonian National Museum:
Estonian language exhibition: “Talking the tongue” Curated by Tiit Hennoste ja Kristiina Ross, Tiit Sibul, Kristel Rattus, designers Architecture Bureau 3+1, Margus Tamm and Marko Raat. 18 May 2010 - 2 January 2011 Brief introduction: This exhibition provides a look at how vowels are formed and how words are translated into sign language. How has Estonian changed over time? What did the language spoken by Estonians in different areas sound like? Visitors can also become familiar with the means used in different eras for making language visible and audible. Everyone can try to assemble words themselves and play with language in other ways. This extremely interactive and innovative exhibition will run until the end of the year.
“Estonian cartography” Curated by Leida Lepik. 7 May – 6 September 2010 The exhibition features Estonian maps from the first Estonian language maps to the best of the maps published in the last 150 years. We will introduce mapmaking techniques and technologies from different eras. All visitors will be able to make their own maps, print out maps of their own hometown or homestead or try their hand at historical techniques. The exhibition is dedicated to the godfather of Estonian cartographers, the late Lev Vassiljev, who was born 90 years ago.

Temporary exhibitions in the Postal Musem: "New Building/ENM_101" Curator Kristjan Raba, designer Hannes Praks From 17 June 2010 The plans for the interior of the new National Museum building can be seen, along with the current stage of the design development and fresh ideas for developments of the Raadi area. The open-air community event “Bearing fire, into the future!” in December 2009 laid the boundaries of the new building, and preparations are being laid in Raadi for construction of the new building. The basic project completion stage allows a glimpse into the interior of the building and a walk in the exhibition hall along the axis of the future building, in the direction of the address Muuseumi tee 2. People are also called on to render their ideas and thoughts about the museum into the form of a picture.

The photographic exhibition at Raadi water tower intoduces the Raadi area located on the border between the city of Tartu and the surrounding rural municipality. In old times, Raadi manor was the centre of cultural and economic life. In the 20th century it was home to the Estonian National Museums`s collections, then to the USSR`s military aircraft. In the 21st century, the development of Raadi area is being influenced by the planning of the new Estonian National Museum building.

An outdoor exhibition using the ruins of the Raadi manor buildings to display a small part of the photographic material gathered in the course of the "Estonian types" project in summer 2008, introducing the special nature of Estonian society at the beginning of the 21st century through the people inhabiting it.

- 06 Apr - 1 Oct 2010 "Printed pictures and letters. Estonian National Museum posters in a sliding display cabinet" Curators Maris Jaagosild and Tiina Tael.
The museum posters give an overview of the ENM`s exhibitions and events spanning close to 100 years, from 1912 to the present day. The exhibition also features a cabinet with sliding doors custommade from ash in 1930. The exhibition is technically unique, with 80 vertical showcases mounted on ball bearings offering over 200 m of space.
