Tartu Visual Culture Week will present a selection of films from all over the world. The festival provides a forum about the newest productions primarly in the field of documentary film (including anthropological film), but also other genres. The event is open to all interested persons, including filmmakers, researchers, students and others.
In addition to the film program, festival will offer exhibitions, workshops and roundtables. For the festival all films, following preferrably analytical approach to human cultures and societies in a wide sense, which have been produced after January 1st 2002, and have not yet been screened at Tartu Visual Culture Week, can be submitted.
Keywords at the festival 2005 will be the everyday culture, modern world as it is inhabited by ordinary peole, but also human rights, lifestyles and relationships between tradition and modernity. The films can tell stories both from faraway worlds and filmmakers home surroundings, bringing them both closer to the audience. Festival sees as its primary mission the educational activities, including offering alternative to the descriptions, the everyday media is able to offer.
The first festival took place at spring 2004 jointly with Nordic Visual Film Association (NAFA).
