ENM studies, collects, preserves and disseminates the cultural legacy of the Estonian nation and other Finno-Ugric peoples. The Main House is home to administration, collections, research and preservation departments, as well as a library devoted to ethnological and cultural history.
The research topics range from the study of traditional folk culture to the analysis of modern society. Exhibitions, conferences and lectures communicate the findings of research, as do print and multimedia publications.
The main emphasis of the collections lies on the cultural history of Estonians and closely related peoples. The wealth of the collections is comprised by artefacts, figures, photographs, films and archive materials – a total of over million rare items.
